Citizen Action/Illinois - the state's largest public interest group - on Tuesday endorsed Mark Pera's candidacy for Illinois' 3rd Congressional District.

The endorsement interview took place before a panel of Citizen Action/Illinois members on Nov. 16 in Rock Island, Ill. Citizen Action/Illinois is a progressive political coalition committed to creating social change both in Illinois and across the nation.

Citizen Action/Illinois co-directors Lynda DeLaforgue and William McNary said Pera will be a strong advocate in Congress on issues involving consumers, the environment and government reform.

Pera said he believes in Citizen Action/Illinois' mission and is honored to have their support.

"Throughout my career, I've been an advocate of social justice. I want to bring that ideal and real Democratic values to Congress on behalf of the people of Illinois' 3rd Congressional District," he said.

Pera, 53, is an Assistant Cook County State's Attorney, a long-time Western Springs resident and President of the Lyons Township High School Board of Education.
